Honey, Do You Love Me?

Before we moved in:

Hey, look at all our junk!

Put some junk up on the shelves, all willy, nilly. Then paint brick.

Think about the shelves. Play around.

Think I need some nice, big mirror above the fireplace.

Buy brightly-colored paint. Make husband do the painting.

It needed four coats. These pictures don't do it justice.

I don't think it's really that bright in person, but I LOVE IT!

Funny, but true:
I picked a paint swatch, and I was determined to buy paint FROM THE STORE WHERE THE PAINT SWATCH ORIGINATED. I meant to tell you about the pink paint debacle with the girls' room. I picked a Ralph Lauren paint, they couldn't color match it FOR SOME STRANGE REASON having to do with the fact that we wanted a paint/primer combo. I ended up picking a Behr(grrrrr) color that was just off a bit. I still think about it. And NO, I have not shared pictures of the girls' room yet. NOT DONE.

So....I picked Sherwin Williams' "Golden Gate" #033, headed to the Sherwin Williams store and said, I want this color in a flat finish. Just a quart please.

Then I got it home. I thought, OH NO! What if they made the color above or below it on the swatch! Better look and see. The top of the paint can said this:

COLOR MATCH? CUSTOM COLOR?
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

I took a Benjamin Moore swatch to the Sherwin Williams store. So it's REALLY Benjamin Moore's "Golden Gate"#033. Color-matched by Sherwin Williams.

And this picture better represents the color:
See how all our stuff just pops now?

Mark it off the list, honey!

What a good idea! I have two of these shelve/cabinet combos on each side of the fireplace and they are so dull. Perhaps wall paper or bright paint will spruce them up :) Looks good!

Your new house is looking good! Dramatic difference on the fireplace. I agree, a mirror would look great on the mantel.

Love what you did. I am in the same boat with 2 built-ins on each side of my fireplace. However, my hubby really doesn't want me to paint the brick, which I would love to do. So, here is what I did

I love color in a house. I know everyone is doing a lot of white these days but color just makes me happy. The fireplace looks wonderful but I really like the shelving with the pop of color.
